The ultimate “Star”
Star Jones Mesmerizes
Two stalwart organizations in New York, the Hue Man Bookstore and the New York Carib News, hosted the Ultimate Star at the beautiful A-Loft in Manhattan on Tuesday May 17th 2011.
The event was dubbed “A Conversation with Star Jones“, where the Celebrity Apprentice conducted a reading from her newly published book “Satan’s Sisters“.
At 7:55pm when the “Star” arrived, the room was already “elitely” buzzing with individuals who came out to support the initiative. One would have thought it was a night of “haute couture“, as the dress code of those present could have rivaled any Hollywood movie premier.
Marva Allen, CEO of Hue Man Bookstore, during her welcome presentation, highlighted the importance of literacy among those in our community and spoke of the invaluable partnership Hue Man has developed over the years with New York Carib News, to the point where together they could host an event featuring the elite Star Jones.
Michelle Rodney, a director at New York Carib News, took the opportunity to highlight the upcoming “Carib News-led” Caribbean Multi-National Business Conference that is scheduled to take place on the island of Jamaica on November 3rd to 6th of this year. The conference, in its sixteenth year, is geared at building capacity and fostering continued development among the Caribbean Diaspora. This announcement had Star Jones overly excited, as through the buzz of the crowd, she (Star Jones), made it known she is a lover of Jamaica and had all intentions of being at this year’s staging of the Conference.
“There is a critical need for more collaboration, that is what this evening is all about, supporting each other and making a positive difference”, articulated Mr. Karl Rodney, Founder of New York Carib News, as he took the microphone, paving the way for the evening’s feature presentation. All three presentations, set the tone for what was to come.
Dressed in a form-fitting black dress, with designer shoes and accessories that may have been flown in from Africa, the mesmerizing Star Jones had those present in awe. Miss Jones began her presentation by highlighting the beauty of the venue. A-Loft, by the way, boasts 124 luxury rooms, a bar and fitness center and it is the first hotel to be opened in Harlem in over 44 years. No doubt it was the ideal venue for this trailblazing event.
Star Jones commanding the audience well, she was definitely no “apprentice” with words, a master of what she does, hence the pending inevitable success of “Satan’s Sisters“. She took in excess of a solid five minutes, expressing gratitude for all those who have supported her over the years and those who are supporting her during her tenure on “Celebrity Apprentice“.
“When I was diagnosed with heart disease a year and a half ago, I wanted to do something to occupy my mind, so I figured I should write about my life, which has become such a funny soap opera”, she said.
“Satan’s Sisters” is the first piece of fiction that Star Jones hopes to publish, a masterpiece to say the least. The content of the book surrounds her experience in Day Time Television and Law. The book, to many, may be scandalous, as it contains raunchy language that has been tastefully written. Star Jones has successfully put on paper the Diva attitudes that exist in the show business, but critically, what happens backstage.
It would be easy for one to believe that “Satan’s Sisters” was written about Miss Jones’ experience while being a host on the hit daytime Television talk show “The View” and even targeting specific character(s), but her superior writing skills will certainly keep her out of trouble, as the focal character, Maxine Robinson, who happens to be 65 years old, hint-hint, is, in this book, an African American. Important to note, the character Maxine Robinson was named after famed African American television anchor Max Robinson, a trail-blazer in media. Essentially, “no one will ever want to admit they are a particular character in this book” articulated Miss Jones; and when you read the book from cover to cover, you’ll understand why.
The reading, “A Conversation with Star Jones”, was an experience one will never forget, the content will keep you intrigued as you flip from page to page. Naturally eliteBUZZ could give you a summary of what was read, but we really want you to go out and get a copy of “Satan’s Sisters“.

Palin does Plastic Surgery?
Hello, Hello, Hello; are you really going to call it “Corrective Surgery” and not “Plastic Surgery”? Don’t be timid, just be bold. Ok, we’re happy you lost some pounds, well, that’s if you had a problem with your weight and it wasn’t because of the “stress” trying to find an “excuse” for your plastic surgery; but come on girl, the buzz is that you did Plastic Surgery and “so what?”, get over it. Bristol Palin, daughter of Sarah Palin has done it; yes she has.
OK my eliteBUZZERS, what do you really think, was it just a “procedure for medical purposes”?
“Yes, it improved the way I look, but this surgery was necessary for medical reasons,” she told another magazine. In essence, arguing that her procedure should not be classified as plastic surgery.
Palin said she had the procedure so her jaw and teeth could properly realign. It is also reported that, she wore braces and a device to help correct an overbite when she was younger. Bristol said her dentist warned her that she’d have to have surgery one day.
Let me take this opportunity to remind you that millions of people have overbites and it does not need “corrective/plastic surgery”, she looked “OK” to the eliteBUZZERS, but I guess being in the spotlight “OK” is simply not enough, so quit searching for excuses and embrace your plastic surgery madam.
This is not just a buzz, this is eliteBUZZ.

“Out the Gate” WINS – Big Time!
New York Launch set for this Thursday May 12th, 2011
Forget the last thriller you saw.
Forget the last suspense movie you sat anxiously to watch.
Forget the last drama you were dying to see and overwhelmed you actually saw it.
If the movie trailer is anything to go by, “Out the Gate” will have you on the edge of your seat from start to finish.
After proving his acting prowess in “Dancehall Queen” and “Shottas”, the Jamaican-born hunk with the distinctive voice, Paul Campbell is solid as a rock; while Oliver Samuels epitomizes the word “actor” as he morphs into a more dramatic role opposed to his usual comical work.
“Out the Gate” will score huge, not only in the Jamaican Diaspora, but among European and North American movie-goers for its grit and intensity. This is by far one of the better action-packed movies for 2011, not from a Caribbean perspective, but in general, “Out the Gate” rivals any Hollywood Production with ease. Additionally, from a Jamaican/Caribbean perspective, “Out the Gate” may easily enter the league of “The Harder they come“, becoming a cultural classic. With the proper team in place, “Far I Films” has struck gold.
“Out the Gate” taps into real life ideas, dreams, concerns, challenges and victories by many immigrants in the United States. Without boring you, the production team successfully explored the music industry, migration and the issue of “donmanship” among other critical topics that will have you thinking and talking about it for a long time.
It will be a “Friday the 13th” to remember at the AMC Bay Plaza Cinema 13, the Whitestone Multiplex Cinemas, Linden Blvd Multiplex Cinemas, and the Jamaica Multiplex Cinemas located in the heavily Caribbean populated boroughs of Bronx, Brooklyn and Queens, as those are the theaters selected for initial engagement.
“Out the Gate” is the directorial debut for the team ‘The Village Brothers’, R. Steven Johnson and Qmillion. As stated, it stars, Paul Campbell (Dancehall Queen, Shottas), Oliver Samuels (Oliver at large), along with Shelli Boone (Holla, Southland), Everton (E-Dee) Dennis, Dancehall Reggae artists Mr. Lexx, Lady G, Ms Triniti, and Edley Shine. Rounding out the cast is American Actress Brenda Vivian who has had recurring roles on “Young and the Restless” as well as “Days of our Lives”.
The soundtrack, to be released on Unseen Lab Recordings, boasts some of Dancehall and Hip-Hop’s biggest names like Beenie Man, Jadakiss, Busy Signal, Styles P, Turbulence, and many more.
Socialites, media peeps, the cast and other celebrities are all geared up for the Official Movie Launch Party slated for Thursday of this week (Thursday May 12, 2011). Don’t worry, if you’re not on the coveted confidential guest list, only USD$20 will take you into this party, which will be at Moments Nightclub, 793 Elmont Rd, Elmont, NY 11003 Get directions Cross Streets: Between Cromer Rd W and 116th Rd. The fun begins at 9:00pm.
This movie is definitely “Out the Gate”.
Secure your seats today, “Out the Gate” opens in the mentioned theaters on Friday May 13, 2011. This is an eliteBUZZ endorsed event.

In the United States, Mother’s Day is an annual holiday celebrated on the second Sunday in May. Mother’s Day recognizes mothers, motherhood and maternal bonds in general, as well the positive contributions that they make to society.
Although many Mother’s Day celebrations world-wide have quite different origins and traditions, most have now been influenced by the American traditions.
History
First attempts to establish a holiday
The first attempts to establish a “Mother’s Day” in the U.S. were mostly marked by women’s peace groups. A common early activity was the meeting of groups of mothers whose sons had fought or died on opposite sides of the American Civil War. There were several limited observances in the 1870s and the 1880s but none achieved resonance beyond the local level.
In 1868 Ann Jarvis created a committee to establish a “Mother’s Friendship Day” whose purpose was “to reunite families that had been divided during the Civil War”, and she wanted to expand it into an annual memorial for mothers, but she died in 1905 before the celebration became popular. Her daughter Anna Jarvis would continue her mother’s efforts.
In New York City, Julia Ward Howe led a “Mother’s Day” anti-war observance on June 2, 1872, which was accompanied by a Mother’s Day Proclamation. The observance continued in Boston for about 10 years under Howe’s personal sponsorship, then died out.
Several years later a Mother’s Day observance on May 13, 1877 was held in Albion, Michigan over a dispute related to the temperance movement. According to local legend, Albion pioneer Juliet Calhoun Blakeley stepped up to complete the sermon of the Rev. Myron Daughterty who was distraught because an anti-temperance group had forced his son and two other temperance advocates to spend the night in a saloon and become publicly drunk. From the pulpit Blakeley called on other mothers to join her. Blakeley’s two sons, both traveling salesmen, were so moved that they vowed to return each year to pay tribute to her and embarked on a campaign to urge their business contacts to do likewise. At their urging, in the early 1880s, the Methodist Episcopal Church in Albion set aside the second Sunday in May to recognize the special contributions of mothers.
Frank E. Hering, President of the Fraternal Order of Eagles, made the first known public plea for “a national day to honor our mothers” in 1904.
Holiday establishment
In its present form, Mother’s Day was established by Anna Marie Jarvis, following the death of her mother Ann Jarvis on May 9, 1905, with the help of Philadelphia merchant John Wanamaker. A small service was held on May 12, 1907 in the Andrew’s Methodist Episcopal Church in Grafton, West Virginia where Anna’s mother had been teaching Sunday school.[2] But the first “official” service was on May 10, 1908 in the same church, accompanied by a larger ceremony in the Wanamaker Auditorium in the Wanamaker’s store on Philadelphia. She then campaigned to establish Mother’s Day first as a U.S. national holiday and then later as an international holiday.
The holiday was declared officially by the state of West Virginia in 1910, and the rest of states followed quickly. On May 8, 1914, the U.S. Congress passed a law designating the second Sunday in May as Mother’s Day and requesting a proclamation. On May 9, 1914 President Woodrow Wilson issued a proclamation declaring the first national Mother’s Day as a day for American citizens to show the flag in honor of those mothers whose sons had died in war.
In 1934, U.S. President Franklin D. Roosevelt approved a stamp commemorating the holiday.
In May 2008 the U.S. House of Representatives voted twice on a resolution commemorating Mother’s Day, the first one being unanimous (with 21 members not voting). The Grafton’s church, where the first celebration was held, is now the International Mother’s Day Shrine and is a National Historic Landmark.
Carnations
Carnations have come to represent Mother’s Day, since Anna Jarvis delivered 500 of them at its first celebration in 1908. Many religious services held later copied the custom of giving away carnations. This also started the custom of wearing a carnation on Mother’s Day. The founder, Anna Jarvis, chose the carnation because it was the favorite flower of her mother. In part due to the shortage of white carnations, and in part due to the efforts to expand the sales of more types of flowers in Mother’s Day, the florists promoted wearing a red carnation if your mother was living, or a white one if she was dead; this was tirelessly promoted until it made its way into the popular observations at churches.

MARY J. BLIGE UPDATES CLASSIC SOUND WITH JERRY WONDA ON ‘MY LIFE II’
Super-producer Jerry “Wonda” Duplessis has lent his Midas touch to records for the Fugees, Whitney Houston, and Shakira. But for his next high-profile project, he’s taking it back to the beginning.
The Haitian musician has a heavy hand in Mary J. Blige’s 10th studio album My Life II: The Journey Continues, having already helmed the buzz single“Someone to Love Me (Naked)” featuring Diddy and Lil Wayne, as well as four or five other songs including the follow-up single. While recording a sequel to the 1994 classic could be daunting, the Grammy-winning producer is teeming with excitement over what they’ve already laid down.
“It’s like My Life, but with a 2011 sound to it,” he told Rap-Up.com. “Everything is all lovely with a hard bottom, but very melodic, clean music. You know Mary, she always comes with bangers. That’s why she called this one My Life II.”
Wonda, who is also working with Justin Bieber, Estelle, Melanie Fiona, John Legend, and Alicia Keys on their forthcoming LPs, originally produced the beat for “Someone to Love Me” for Diddy-Dirty Money’s Last Train to Paris, but passed it off to the Queen of Hip-Hop Soul after the Bad Boy mogul gave her his blessing.
“I just played the record. Mary was like, ‘Hold up! That’s my record!’ You know those two. They’re like brothers and sisters,” he said. “Puff came throughPlatinum Sound—that’s where I’m at—and Mary’s like, ‘I need this record.’ Puff was like, ‘Yo, that’s it! You want it, no problem mama. Let’s go!’”
MJB decided to tack on a verse from Weezy and rename the tune to suit her mood. “The reason she called it ‘Naked’ was because she was like, ‘I’m just going to let it out, whatever’s inside of me,’” continued Wonda, who worked with Swizz Beatz on a few tracks for Mary. “That’s the record, my God! Everybody’s talking about it.”
With My Life II landing in stores in September, Wonda is currently focused on his upcoming projects, with credits as executive producer on Musiq Soulchild’sMusiqInTheMagiq and producer on Akon’s forthcoming single.

Eyes of Babylon Producers Launch National Writing Competition
The producers of The Eyes of Babylon have launched a national writing contest to promote the play’s Off-Broadway run, June 14th–July 3rd, 2011 in NYC
The Eyes of Babylon presents the true story of playwright and performer Jeff Key, who joined the Marines in 2001 as a 34-year-old gay man. Key transforms the pages of
his Iraq journal into a stunning, raw, funny and indelible solo performance about going to battle, being gay in the military, and finding peace when you are at war with yourself.
CONTEST THEMES
With this contest, we hope to to further explore the play’s themes of war, the memory of war, and our individual and collective forgetfulness about being at war. We hope to start a broad social dialogue about how art is both a celebration and a critique of our citizenship, patriotism, love of country, and allegiance to values.
The play is as much about the process of searching for answers as finding answers themselves, and contest entries should consider the battles we wage both internally and externally, and the role of writing, creativity, and art in the fight for peace, change, and self-examination.

“Anything” by Musiq Soulchild ft. Swizz Beatz
Steadily Climbing the Charts!
“MUSIQINTHEMAGIQ” marks the third release on the Atlantic Records label for Philadelphia native Musiq Soulchild. The single “Anything” (featuring Swizz Beatz) has been rising steadily up the top 40 on Billboard’s “R&B/Hip Hop Songs” chart. Produced by Jerry “Wonda” Duplessis (who has previously worked with artists as diverse as Wyclef Jean, Justin Bieber, and T.I.) the highly anticipated CD breaks new ground while remaining faithful to his core fan base with lyrically-elegant tracks such as “yes“.
The Grammy nominee’s trademark sound remains intact with “MUSIQINTHE MAGIQ”, his seventh CD since his Platinum blockbuster debut in 2000, “AIJUSWANASEING”. Blending familiar but entertaining themes to a mix of R&B, hip hop and jazzy grooves, the new release showcases Musiq as one of a handful of today’s male vocalists who could probably sing “girl, you trippin” and make it sound romantic.
eliteBUZZ Congratulates MusiqSoulchild and Swizz Beatz, we once again acknowledge the work of Jerry Wonda!
