The ultimate “Star”

Star Jones Mesmerizes

Star Jones

Two stalwart organizations in New York, the Hue Man Bookstore and the New York Carib News, hosted the Ultimate Star at the beautiful A-Loft in Manhattan on Tuesday May 17th 2011.

The event was dubbed “A Conversation with Star Jones“, where the Celebrity Apprentice conducted a reading from her newly published book “Satan’s Sisters“.

At 7:55pm when the “Star” arrived, the room was already “elitely” buzzing with individuals who came out to support the initiative. One would have thought it was a night of “haute couture“, as the dress code of those present could have rivaled any Hollywood movie premier.

Marva Allen, CEO of Hue Man Bookstore, during her welcome presentation, highlighted the importance of literacy among those in our community and spoke of the invaluable partnership Hue Man has developed over the years with New York Carib News, to the point where together they could host an event featuring the elite Star Jones.

Michelle Rodney, a director at New York Carib News, took the opportunity to highlight the upcoming “Carib News-led” Caribbean Multi-National Business Conference that is scheduled to take place on the island of Jamaica on November 3rd to 6th of this year. The conference, in its sixteenth year, is geared at building capacity and fostering continued development among the Caribbean Diaspora. This announcement had Star Jones overly excited, as through the buzz of the crowd, she (Star Jones), made it known she is a lover of Jamaica and had all intentions of being at this year’s staging of the Conference.

“There is a critical need for more collaboration, that is what this evening is all about, supporting each other and making a positive difference”, articulated Mr. Karl Rodney, Founder of New York Carib News, as he took the microphone, paving the way for the evening’s feature presentation. All three presentations, set the tone for what was to come.

Star Jones surrounded by supporters

Dressed in a form-fitting black dress, with designer shoes and accessories that may have been flown in from Africa, the mesmerizing Star Jones had those present in awe. Miss Jones began her presentation by highlighting the beauty of the venue. A-Loft, by the way, boasts 124 luxury rooms, a bar and fitness center and it is the first hotel to be opened in Harlem in over 44 years. No doubt it was the ideal venue for this trailblazing event.

Star Jones commanding the audience well, she was definitely no “apprentice” with words, a master of what she does, hence the pending inevitable success of “Satan’s Sisters“. She took in excess of a solid five minutes, expressing gratitude for all those who have supported her over the years and those who are supporting her during her tenure on “Celebrity Apprentice“.

“When I was diagnosed with heart disease a year and a half ago, I wanted to do something to occupy my mind, so I figured I should write about my life, which has become such a funny soap opera”, she said.

Satan’s Sisters” is the first piece of fiction that Star Jones hopes to publish, a masterpiece to say the least. The content of the book surrounds her experience in Day Time Television and Law. The book, to many, may be scandalous, as it contains raunchy language that has been tastefully written. Star Jones has successfully put on paper the Diva attitudes that exist in the show business, but critically, what happens backstage.

It would be easy for one to believe that “Satan’s Sisters” was written about Miss Jones’ experience while being a host on the hit daytime Television talk show “The View” and even targeting specific character(s), but her superior writing skills will certainly keep her out of trouble, as the focal character, Maxine Robinson, who happens to be 65 years old, hint-hint, is, in this book, an African American. Important to note, the character Maxine Robinson was named after famed African American television anchor Max Robinson, a trail-blazer in media. Essentially, “no one will ever want to admit they are a particular character in this book” articulated Miss Jones; and when you read the book from cover to cover, you’ll understand why.

The reading, “A Conversation with Star Jones”, was an experience one will never forget, the content will keep you intrigued as you flip from page to page. Naturally eliteBUZZ could give you a summary of what was read, but we really want you to go out and get a copy of “Satan’s Sisters“.

Remember, this is not just a buzz, this is eliteBUZZ.
